Vastu Tips for Bedroom

You spend a third of your life in your bedroom. Its Vastu compliance directly affects your sleep quality, relationship harmony, and overall health. Here is a comprehensive guide to optimising your bedroom according to Vastu Shastra.

“The bedroom is your sanctuary. It is where you rest, rejuvenate, and connect with your partner. When its Vastu is right, you wake up refreshed, your relationships flourish, and your health remains strong.”

— RAJUL KAUSHIK

Best Direction for the Master Bedroom

The Southwest corner of the house is the ideal location for the master bedroom. This direction (Nairitya Kona) represents stability, strength, and the earth element. Sleeping in the Southwest promotes deep rest, strong relationships, and a sense of security. The second-best option is the West. The Northwest is acceptable for guest rooms or children's rooms. The Northeast should never be used as a bedroom — it is too spiritually active for restful sleep.

Bed Placement — The Most Important Rule

Your bed should be placed with your head towards the South or East. Sleeping with your head to the South aligns your body's magnetic field with the Earth's, promoting deep, restful sleep. The East direction brings mental clarity and spiritual growth. Never sleep with your head to the North — this goes against the Earth's magnetic pull and can cause restless sleep and health issues. The bed should have a solid wall behind it (not a window) and a clear view of the door without being directly in line with it.

Mirrors in the Bedroom

Mirrors in the bedroom require careful placement. A mirror should never face the bed directly — it reflects energy back at you while you sleep, which can cause insomnia, anxiety, and relationship issues. If you have a mirror facing the bed, cover it at night or reposition it. Ideal mirror placements are on the North or East walls, or inside a wardrobe door that closes. Avoid mirrored ceilings or large mirror panels in the bedroom entirely.

Bedroom Colours for Peaceful Sleep

Soft, soothing colours work best for bedrooms. Light pink, peach, beige, cream, lavender, and light blue promote calmness and relationship harmony. For the master bedroom, pink and peach shades are especially recommended for married couples — they nurture love and emotional connection. Avoid dark reds, bright oranges, and black in the bedroom. Green is suitable for children's bedrooms. Grey and silver work for singles or those seeking independence.

Electronics in the Bedroom

Electronic devices emit electromagnetic radiation that disrupts sleep quality. Ideally, keep televisions, computers, and Wi-Fi routers out of the bedroom. If you must have a TV, place it in a cabinet that closes at night. Never keep phones on the bedside table while sleeping — keep them at least 3-4 feet away. Remove all electronics from the Northeast corner of the bedroom, as this affects mental clarity. The ideal bedroom is screen-free, quiet, and dark.

Vastu for Married Couples' Bedroom

The master bedroom should be in the Southwest for relationship stability. Two separate single beds pushed together are not as good as one solid double bed — unity of the bed represents unity of the couple. Place photos or symbols of love and togetherness on the Southwest or West wall. Avoid single or solo photos on the bedroom walls. Keep the space under the bed clean and clutter-free. The bedroom should not have a pooja room attached or inside it — worship and rest should be in separate spaces.

Common Bedroom Vastu Defects

Bedroom in the Northeast — the most serious defect. It drains energy and causes insomnia. Toilet attached to the bedroom without proper ventilation — the bathroom door should always be closed and the toilet seat covered. Beams over the bed — creates pressure and health issues. Bed under a window — energy escapes while you sleep. Stairs behind the bed wall — can cause chronic anxiety. Most of these can be remedied: cover beams with a false ceiling, reposition the bed, or use Vastu pyramids.

Quick Bedroom Vastu Remedies

Place a pair of wooden elephants facing the door for relationship protection. Hang a crystal in the window to diffuse negative energy. Use lavender or sandalwood incense before sleep. Keep a bowl of sea salt in the Northeast corner to absorb negative energy (replace weekly). Place fresh flowers (not dried) in the bedroom. Ensure the room is completely dark during sleep hours. Remove all work-related items from the bedroom — it should be a sanctuary of rest, not a second office.
